Privacy, in plain words

This is how the CapFishs app and this website handle your data.
- What cloud AI gets: Only the photo you take or pick — it may show people’s faces. GPS is removed from it on your phone before upload, and so is the rest of its EXIF data (details your camera saves inside a photo).
- Who processes it: Our servers in Germany (EU) cut the fish out. Google Gemini names it. Your photo is also handled by the cloud services that host our servers and your CapFishs cloud, and by a relay service that forwards fish-ID requests to Google Gemini.
- Google may keep fish-ID requests, including your photo, for a limited time to detect abuse and meet legal obligations. It doesn’t use them to train its models or improve its products, and it may process them in any country where it has facilities.
- How long we keep it: Signed in: your photos (GPS removed), fish outlines and catch details stay in your CapFishs cloud until you delete them — one catch or your whole account — so your log follows you to a new phone. Not signed in: your photo is deleted from our servers as soon as the fish is named and cut out, and your log stays on this phone until you sign in. With cloud AI on, it’s then uploaded to your account in one go.
- Your catch spots: Where you caught each fish is saved as a separate, private field — never inside the photo, and never sent for fish ID. It leaves your phone only once you’ve turned on cloud AI and signed in, and only to your own account.
- Only you can see your spots. Anything you share shows the county at most — never your exact spot.
- Turn it off any time: Switch off Cloud AI processing in Settings. From then on your photos and catches aren’t uploaded — uploads already in progress stop too — and new catches stay on this phone (you pick the species). What’s already in your CapFishs cloud stays there until you delete it.
- Delete your data: Delete your account in Settings, or ask at capfishs.app/delete-account — no app needed. This deletes your account, catches, photos, cut-outs and cards.
- Age: CapFishs is for anglers 13 and older.
On Android
- You choose photos with the system photo picker. We can access only the photos you select, and the app does not request broad photo-library access.
- If you tap “Use my location” for weather, Android asks for approximate location while you use the app. You can decline and search for a place instead. We don’t request background location.
- Your birthday is used on the age-check screen and is not saved or sent to us. Only the result needed to allow or block access is kept.
- Google Play handles Android subscription payments. We verify purchases with Google and keep the minimum purchase records needed to provide your subscription and prevent duplicate claims. Deleting your account removes the account link from those records; it does not cancel your Google Play subscription.
This website
- It doesn’t use cookies, ads, analytics or tracking scripts, and it doesn’t load anything from other websites.
- Like any website, it runs on a cloud service that handles technical details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser, to deliver pages and keep the site secure.
- If you ask us to delete your account on this site, we get the email address and account code you enter. We use them only to handle your request.
- If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply.
